Jean: And I’m Jean.
Jo: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your English textbook.
Jo: Today’s new word is &lsquo,翻譯;naff’ – N.A.F.F. – naff.
Jean: Naff. Naff
Jo: Well, naff is a slang word. It means bad, not good.
Jo: Well, anytime you want to say something isn’t good. You could say ‘It’s naff.’ for example ‘I didn’t like the live music. It was naff.’
Jean:
Jo: Yes. ‘It’s naff’ means ‘It isn’t good.’
Insert
A: How was your holiday?
B: A bit naff really. There wasn’t anything to do and the weather was terrible.
Jo: Have you tried the new restaurant over the road?
Jean: No, have you?
Jo: Yes, but it’s a bit naff. I wouldn’t remend it.
Jean: Why is it naff?
Jo: Well, the food was naff to start with, and the music is terrible. And it was quite expensive.
Jean: It does sound naff.
Jo: Yes. Don’t waste your money going to a naff restaurant.
Well, it looks like we don’t have any more time.
Jo: Yes, that’s it. You’ve been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. Join us again soon for more up-to-the-minute Real English. Bye.
Jean: See you next time.
